Bruce Blakeman Labels Governor Hochul a 'Puppet' of Zohran Mamdani at New York Rally
Republican gubernatorial hopeful Bruce Blakeman sharply criticized incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul, alleging she is beholden to the agenda of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, the Republican candidate for New York governor, recently leveled strong criticism against incumbent Governor Kathy Hochul during a campaign event in Yorktown Heights. Blakeman asserted that Governor Hochul acts as a "puppet" for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a prominent figure in the democratic socialist movement.
Campaign Trail Confrontation
During his address, Blakeman accused Governor Hochul of adopting the democratic socialist mayor's policy platform, while simultaneously failing to adequately address rising crime rates and issues related to illegal immigration within the state. He specifically referenced Governor Hochul's recent joint appearances with Mayor Mamdani.
Speaking to attendees, Blakeman remarked, "Governor Kathy Hochul was campaigning alongside Mayor Mamdani this week," adding, "I believe that's excellent. I encourage her to bring him to every event, Kathy, because I want to remind the public that this mayor, whom I describe as un-American, antisemitic, and anti-Christian, is effectively directing the Democratic Party, and Governor Kathy Hochul is merely his instrument."
Political Alignments and Shifting Influence
Governor Hochul, who is seeking a full second term in office, has indeed been appearing publicly with Mayor Mamdani, including a recent joint rally held in Brooklyn. This political partnership unfolds as democratic socialist viewpoints have gained increasing traction and influence within New York's political landscape.
Beyond Mayor Mamdani's successful mayoral election last year, candidates aligned with his political ideology and the broader democratic socialist movement in New York have secured significant victories in congressional primaries this year. These wins included the defeat of two incumbent Democratic representatives.
Ongoing Debates on Public Safety and Responses
Public safety has been a consistent point of contention for Blakeman, who has previously criticized both Governor Hochul and Mayor Mamdani for what he describes as their failure to adequately address crime in New York City.
Earlier this month, during a campaign appearance within the city's subway system, Blakeman characterized Governor Hochul as "the most pro-criminal governor" and asserted that both leaders were not ensuring the safety of daily commuters.
In response to Blakeman's criticisms, Mayor Mamdani publicly accused the Republican gubernatorial hopeful of engaging in "bigotry and racism" following a debate between Blakeman and Hochul earlier in the month.
When questioned by reporters about Governor Hochul's handling of Blakeman's remarks, Mayor Mamdani commented, "I believe the governor performed admirably. And I would never criticize someone for not being able to address every single point, because that is a futile endeavor when dealing with Bruce Blakeman."
Despite the political attacks, Governor Hochul and Mayor Mamdani have consistently highlighted issues of affordability and child care during their joint campaign events. They contend that their proposed policies are specifically designed to reduce financial burdens for working families across the state.
