FBI Apprehends 'Most Wanted' Fraud Suspect, Repatriates Him from India in $600K SNAP Scheme
Manjit Singh Bedi, accused of orchestrating a significant federal food stamp fraud, has been brought back to the United States following his arrest in India.

Federal authorities have successfully repatriated a fugitive, Manjit Singh Bedi, to the United States following his arrest in India last month. Bedi faces accusations of orchestrating a fraud scheme that siphoned more than $600,000 from federal food assistance programs, as confirmed by FBI Director Kash Patel.
Bedi had been listed among the FBI's Most Wanted Fraudsters and was sought on federal charges related to an alleged Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) fraud operation centered at a grocery establishment in Tacoma, Washington.
Announcing the development, Director Patel stated publicly that Bedi, identified as one of the agency's Most Wanted Fraudsters, had been apprehended in India in September and was now back in the United States.
Allegations of Extensive SNAP Fraud
Federal authorities allege that Bedi defrauded the U.S. government of a minimum of $600,000 through his involvement in a SNAP fraud scheme. This illicit activity purportedly took place between March 2024 and June 2025, during which time he managed an Asian grocery store in Tacoma.
The FBI's investigation suggests that Bedi's method involved swiping Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards belonging to SNAP recipients. Instead of providing qualified food items, he would allegedly dispense cash, retaining approximately half of the benefit value for himself.
Following his indictment in connection with the fraudulent operation, Bedi reportedly traveled by vehicle to Canada, subsequently making his escape to India. On May 21, 2026, a federal arrest warrant was issued for Bedi, citing violations of his release conditions.
FBI Director Highlights Successful Repatriations
Director Patel also took the opportunity to underscore the FBI's recent achievements in returning fugitives to American soil.
This is the latest in an unprecedented stretch of success in bringing high-value targets back to the United States through strong partnerships with our foreign law enforcement counterparts.
He further elaborated on these efforts, noting,
